One of our favorite local restaurants serves a grilled avocado stuffed with chorizo, queso and pico de gallo that is as drool-worthy as it sounds. I wanted to recreate the dish at home, in appetizer form, for when we’re watching the Big Game.
These chorizo and avocado wonton cup appetizers, with a touch of TABASCO® Sauce to kick up the flavor, are the perfect bite-sized game-day snack.
I’m teaming up with a group of bloggers to share our favorite easy avocado recipes and give you a chance to win a $1,000 gift card. Be sure to read to the end of this post for all the details.

The recipe is really quick and simple, too, requiring just a few simple ingredients: wonton wrappers, Avocados from Mexico, chorizo sausage, shredded cheese and TABASCO® Sauce.
When it comes to recipes, I’ve found that simple is usually better — for the cook’s stress level and for flavor. I mean, look at TABASCO® Sauce. It’s made with three simple ingredients — tabasco peppers, a small amount of salt and high-quality vinegar — that are marinated for three years in wood barrels before the sauce is bottled. No wonder it tastes so good.
You can make the wonton cups ahead of time and fill then on game day. Just press the wonton wrappers into a muffin tin and bake until golden brown. If you’re making them ahead of time, store the wonton cups in an airtight container or plastic bag.
Prepare the filling by chopping chorizo and Avocados from Mexico and sauteeing in an iron skillet over medium heat. Sprinkle with cheese, then fill the wonton cups.

If you’ve never cooked avocados before, I hope you will make this recipe. The whole concept of “grilled” avocados was a game changer for me! They really are so versatile and delicious any way you serve them — sliced, salted, grilled, sauteed, spread on toast, mashed into guacamole, swirled in salad dressing, baked in brownies and more.
I like to serve these appetizers right out of the muffin tin.
Why dirty more dishes, right?
The restaurant inspiration for this recipe includes pico de gallo, but that would make the wonton cups soggy. So I drizzle a little TABASCO® Sauce over each one as a finisher. I love how TABASCO® Sauce livens up any dish you add it to.
TABASCO® Sauce and Avocados from Mexico are a pretty good pair on game day because the flavors are complementary.
Chances are, your Big Game spread will include a variety of avocado dishes, including staples like guacamole and 7-layer dip. But I hope you’ll try some of these other easy avocado recipes from Avocados from Mexico and my team of Big Game bloggers.
