  • In a large skillet pan, over medium-high heat, cook the hamburger patties on each side until browned with a nice crust to them. Remove the patties from the skillet pan and transfer them to a plate.

    * No need to cook until a safe internal temperature, just get a nice sear on the outside of the patties on both sides.

  • Mushroom Gravy : Into the same skillet pan, add the butter, sliced mushrooms, and onions. Cook until the onions and have softened and the mushrooms have turned brown.

    * Remember to scrape up the pan drippings – all the brownedbits off of the bottom of the skillet (lots of flavor there!).

Notes

Serving Size : The recipe makes 4 large patties but I usually shape them into smaller sized patties so I can get 6 servings from the recipe. When’s Erving them over mashed potatoes and with some sort of side dish (like veggies), everyone in my family is plenty full with the smaller sized patty.

Skillet Pan : Use a larger skillet pan (about 12 inches) for this recipe.

Ground Beef : The higher the fat content the more moist and flavorful the patties will be, but the sauce will also be more oily. I prefer using a leaner ground beef like 90/10 or 93/7 when making this recipe. After cooking the patties you can soak up some of the grease/oil inside the skillet pan to prevent an oily gravy. I use a paper towel to soak up the grease if needed.
