Your corral assignment is based on your best pace as calculated by NYRR, and each corral has a minimum best pace, called a pace cut. The pace cuts are listed in the chart below, (in the Pace Cuts section), and you can read an explanation of how pace cuts are calculated on our Calculated Pace and Corral Updates page.
Can you move back corrals in NYRR? ›
The Start. Start Corrals: Participants are responsible for arriving at the start corrals assigned to them, based on their best pace, and entering at the designated corral entry points before the corral closing times. Runners may move back to a slower corral but may not move forward to a faster corral.
How often does NYRR update Best Pace? ›
For runners who haven't finished a race longer than 3 miles in the past 12 months, we'll use the most recent pace in the past two years. Runners who haven't finished a race longer than 3 miles in that time period will input their expected pace. You can check your converted time using this online calculator.
Can you change corrals in NYC Marathon? ›
Start Lines/Waves
Your race bib indicates your start wave, color, and corral. There are five start waves, three start colors (blue, orange, and pink), and six corrals per wave. Wave and corral assignments cannot be changed. Your finish time is your net time from when you cross the start line.
How does corral work? ›
Corrals are groups of runners with similar paces or expected finishing times that gather at the start line. This helps avoid tripping hazards in the opening shoot and on the course and alleviates potential congestion within that first mile.
How hard is it to qualify for the New York marathon? ›
That means just 6,600 people were accepted via the lottery. More than 17,000 NYRR members who applied and met the eligibility criteria were automatically entered into a new NYRR Member-Only Second-Chance Drawing, and approximately four percent were accepted from that pool. Can someone else pick up my bib for the NYC marathon? ›
Except for some of our premier races, such as the United Airlines NYC Half, RBC Brooklyn Half, and TCS New York City Marathon, ID or confirmation is not required for number pickup. In these cases, someone else may pick up your race materials.
Can I wear a hydration vest at the NYC marathon? ›
The following items are prohibited from all NYRR events and race venues: Hydration backpack/vest with bladder or water reservoir (if your vest allows for both water bottles and a bladder/water reservoir, you are only able to use bottles and they must be in the front pockets of the vest). What is the time limit for the NYRR? ›
Finish. The finish line will close at a 20-minute-per-mile pace, plus the 20 minutes that the start remains open. Those finishing after that time will receive 9+1 credit for the race but will not be included in the results. Medical support will remain available on the course after the cutoff time.
How many miles is 5K? ›
A 5K run is 3.1 miles. Don't be afraid of the distance. A 5K run is a great distance for a new runner. You can get ready for a 5K run in only two months.
A trusted team of pacemakers who are paid to keep the runners at a speed that they can manage for the rest of the race become useful in such a situation.
