Summer Capsule Wardrobe

For those of you who don’t know what a capsule wardrobe is…it’s a collection of essential items that flawlessly integrate together. That means you can mix and match and wear all of these pieces in a bunch of different ways to get the most versatility out of your wardrobe.

How To Build A Summer Capsule Wardrobe
1) Pick a Color Story:
In this case (below) I chose neutrals like black, white, ivory, beige, and tan. Then I threw in a few fun blue pieces. These colors work well for women of all ages and are very versatile. If you remember the Spring Capsule Wardrobe from a few months ago, I shared even more neutral pieces…If you shopped that capsule wardrobe, all of these new pieces will work well with those too!
2) Choose Basics Wisely:
There’s a reason this graphic takes me so long to put together… I choose each piece very carefully, weighing fit and versatility as well as quality. You want to spend the majority of your wardrobe budget on basics. 80% on basics. 20% on trends. You can find more really helpful style tips here. Additionally, I’m thinking about sleeves, hemlines, and all of the things that help women at all ages feel more confident.

I tried to include pieces that are versatile so that you can wear them over and over again. This wardrobe is for summer, but it could easily transition to fall and beyond! Another thing I want to point out is that you do NOT have to buy new pieces every season. This capsule wardrobe is a springboard for you to create outfits and glean inspiration. Summer Capsule Wardrobe Essentials
Tops
I either own all of these tops or own tops by the same brand and love them. The white Rails button-down is my go-to every summer. I have it in my regular size to wear normally and in one size up to wear as a coverup (perfect for travel!). The white Nation LTD tee is a great basic with a twist. And I love both the blue and red Farm Rio tops. A quick note about the red printed Farm Rio top…this orangey-red color is difficult for someone with my complexation to wear but I know it would look wonderful on many of you!
Bottoms
If you’re looking for an affordable pair of denim shorts, this pair by Pistola is a great option! If you’re looking for a casual pair of cotton shorts, I have the pants version of these black shorts and love them…the material is SO good for summer (and travel).
These white jeans by Pistola have been a #1 best seller for months…if you haven’t grabbed them already, I highly recommend them!
Dresses
I recommend having a black dress, a white dress, and a printed dress for summer that can all be dressed up or down. Any of the three options linked below would be perfect. I love all the flattering details on the white dress and that I could wear it with sneakers for a casual day of lunch and errands, or throw on heels and wear it to dinner!
Outerwear
If you already have your classic black blazer covered, considering adding a white blazer to your wardrobe for summer. This one by Cinq a Sept has a more relaxed fit and cool ruched sleeves. Looking for something more casual? Try this chic cropped jacket by Paige! It’s super lightweight and a beautiful neutral color that will go with everything.
Accessories & Jewelry
I choose everyday, but impactful gold jewelry that elevates a look without overpowering it.
Shoes
These are ALL neutral-toned, comfortable shoes and fit true to size. Remember to consider your lifestyle and preferences…I love wearing heeled sandals, but I know many of you prefer flats. All choices are completely up to you!
Swim
